ABSTRACT
This study will examine the oxidative stress of rat fed with Pentaclethra macrophylla, otherwise known as oil of African oil bean seed in English or in Igbo, ugba. Sixteen male rats were divided into four groups. 1 (control) and Group 2, 3 and 4 as the test groups. They were fed with formulated meal (5%, 10%, 20% inclusions) for 28 days. Group 1 was the control and were fed with normal diet, while the group 2, 3 and 4 were the test groups were fed the formula of test feed. The determined parameters are concentrations MDA and catalase activity. MDA serum increased significantly (p <0.05) while catalase activity decreased significantly (p <0.05). This finding may be clinically significant in individuals having a predisposition to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and other degenerative diseases.
