ABSTRACT
This study focused on the skills needed for successful management of small scale enterprises in Awka South Local Government of Anambra State. The major purpose of the study was to identify the skills needed by small scale managers/owners in the area. To achieve this broad objective four research questions were formulated for the study. The survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of 2530 small scale enterprise managers. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 240 respondents. The study used questionnaire as the instrument for data collection, the instrument was validated by two experts in the Department of Entrepreneurship Studies of Management Sciences of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. 240 copies of the questionnaire were distributed. Data collected were analyzed using arithmetic mean. The findings include among others; management skills, accounting skills, ICT skills and human relation skills are needed for successful management of small scale enterprise. Consequently it was recommended that the government and non-governmental organisations should collaborate with small scale managers and organize workshop that will equip them with the necessary skills needed for successful management of small scale enterprises.
