ABSTRACT
This study was intended to critically carry out a rigorous assessment among other things, the role the international community led by the United States played in the fight against terrorism, whether the United States actions conforms with the stipulations of international law, and its impact on global security using the United States war in Afghanistan. Hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The power theory was used as an analytical tool because, it is the most frequently used theory in the study of political science, particularly in international relations. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, information were gathered through content analysis, articles, international journals, magazines, monographs and books related to the study. The study found out that the international community led by the United States did not declare war against terrorism because it was interested in the security situation in Afghanistan in particular and the globe in general, but because the Taliban and their allies finally engaged in activities that directly harmed the United States.
