ABSTRACT
This
work critically examines the concept of alternative dispute resolution, its
meaning, suitability, advantages and criticisms. It explores the brief history
of ADR and its gradual and continuous development. It takes critical look at
the establishment of multi-door courts, their duties and doors of resolution.
It also provides recommendation on how to better the concept of ADR and the
multidoor courts. The paper seeks to show ADR and its many contributions to
settling disputes in Nigeria. This work critically places the concept of
litigation and the concept of alternative dispute resolution in juxta-pose,
analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of each concept. This work draws the
concept of ADR from the ancient and traditional dispute resolution techniques
that were used as early as man started having conflict.
