In the area of security, one major problem hindering crime detection and
reporting is lack of efficient communication platform between the police and
the general public. Mobile technologies using mobile devices is proving to be a
more effective implementation for crime detection and monitoring. In this
study, we are proposing a crime reporting and management model using GSM and
GIS technologies in order to mitigate the challenges faced by most developing
countries in reducing the crime rates. A baseline study that was carried out to
ascertain how citizens report crime to the police. This was followed by a study
that looked at how the Police receive and manage crime information. This
project work intends to automate the existing criminal records and crimes reporting
of the Nigeria police. The essence is to produce durable criminal records and
avoidable loss of criminal records. Structural database management system
(DBMS) is used in its development in other to eliminate redundancy in the
compilation, its friendliness in responding to the user exhibits and also its
reliability and efficiency in tracking and reporting down criminals. Manual
processes neither provide accurate, reliable and comprehensive data round the
clock nor does it help in trend prediction and decision support. Hence the new
system designed will aid police in tracking and reporting crime records and
getting reports about crime thereby facilitating quick response and timely
delivery of judgment. The software is implemented using Android studio and
SQLite database.
